New video shows cicadas re-emerging in St. Louis County

 ## Cicada attack! St. Louis County is buzzing with the large arrival of Brood XIII.

Get ready for nature's resonant symphony! A recent video from FOX 2 News captured the epic appearance of cicadas in St. Louis County, Missouri. Brood XIII, a 13-year-old cicada brood, is making its spectacular comeback after spending more than a decade underground.

The video shows a wave of cicadas exploding from the soil in Ellisville and Balloon. Residents are witnessing a true wonder of nature, with some backyards teeming with thousands of these fascinating insects.

Dr. Casey Fowler Finn, an associate professor of biology at St. Louis University, explains the incident in the video. "We're witnessing a natural wonder that most of the planet won't be able to see," she says. Prepare for the return of the signature cicada chorus, a sound not heard in St. Louis since 2011.

This emergence is particularly interesting because for the first time since 1803, 13-year and 17-year cicada broods will emerge in the same year in parts of central and eastern Illinois. Fortunately, St. Louis residents will be spared a double dose of buzz.

But fear not, cicada phobes! The party won't last forever. Dr. Fowler Finn assures us that this explosion of cicadas will be over by the Fourth of July. After that, the cycle begins again, these underground dwellers return in 2037.

So, grab your phone, take a video of these incredible creatures, and enjoy the unique spectacle of the reappearance of Brood XIII in St. Louis County!
